Going Further

Here are some Web resources to help you get started in subscribing to Mail Lists.

  • Mailing Lists for Teachers
  • Listservs for K-12 and Children
  • Email Discussion Groups/Lists Resources
  • More Email Discussion Groups
You can easily find others using search engines, or just by browsing the Web in particular subject areas. For example, try this search, which uses the Alta Vista search engine with the search string

+listserv+"mail list"+k-12

As we learned in the section on finding things, this instructs the search engine to seek only documents that contain the strings listserv, mail list (only in that combination, not as separate words mail and list), and k-12. Finally, since the string is entirely in lower case, the requested search will be case-insensitive.

You could obtain exactly the same search by calling up the Alta Vista search engine and manually typing the above string into the search string window. Try it and see.

You can also sharpen your search. For example, use Alta Vista to search on the string +listserv+"mail list"+k-12+math. You should now get a much smaller list with a higher probability of containing interesting links concerning Mail Lists for K-12 mathematics.

Finally, for Mail Lists as well as Newsgroups, remember issues of Internet Safety.
