For a number of years, a staple for rapid and broad distribution of information on the Internet has been the use of Automatic Mail Lists (sometimes called listservs). Although many of the functions of these lists are being supplanted by Web sites and by Newsgroups, Mail Lists still play a large role in distributing information because they require only email, not Web, capability.
Mail Lists have much in common with Newsgroups. Like Newsgroups, they can be a valuable source of information on a broad spectrum of specialized topics.
