Compilations of Resources
A resource compilation is a list of links to pages with information on particular subjects. Such a list may be constructed by a program, but it is often created by someone who, like you, is interested in a particular topic and has already searched the Web for sites with information on this subject. For example, suppose you are interested in the sport of soccer. Then you would probably be very interested in this list of sites with information about soccer:
But how does someone who provides you with such a list find the sites herself? She may start from one or more other resource compilations, click on the links, and keep a list of only the ones that she finds the most useful. Or she may start with such a list, check some of the links, and then follow a link on one of these pages to a site that was not on any of her original lists. This may take her to many new sites with information about her topic that she had not previously known about. Or she may conduct part or all of her search for sites with relevant information by using a search engine. We shall now see that a properly used search engine can make short work of finding information on the Web for a particular topic.
