Going Further
The most common usage of telnet these days is to allow you to log into a distant
computer on which you have an account and to perform remotely various
functions such as editing and processing of email. That works exactly
like the anonymous telnet example, except that you have to log in with
a user name and password in that case. A more extensive introduction to
telnet may be found in the classic Zen and the Art of the Internet.
