Format Conversion

Sounds that you find in an archive may not be in a format suitable for playing on your own system. This is less of a problem than it once was, since the trend in newer browsers is to include plugins capable of playing most common formats. Nevertheless, it still may be necessary to convert sound formats. For example, java applets are capable of playing only files in AU format. Two Macintosh programs that we have used for sound format conversion are Sound App and ConvertMachine. We have not used comparable programs for PC systems, though presumably they exist.
