The Tools Menu

The "Tools" pulldown menu has the entries shown in the following figure for the Windows version of Explorer 5.0.

  • Mail and News: Opens the appropriate browser interface for reading mail, composing and sending a new email message, and reading newsgroups. (Your browser must be previously configured to handle email and access newsgroups.)

  • Synchronize: Helps insure your favorite pages are updated before viewing offline.

  • Windows Update: Links to the Microsoft update page for Windows.

  • Show Related Links: Displays a sidebar of related links to the current page. The list of links is generated automatically.

  • Reset Web Settings: Resets your Web settings to their original Internet Explorer defaults.

  • Internet Options: Provides "preferences-like" settings that control various aspects of how your browser works. Includes allowing you to change your homepage (the page that is displayed when you first open your browser and when you click the Home button), manage your temporary Internet files (if you frequently visit pages they are stored on your hard drive for faster access), and reset the history list of which links you've visited. This menu also lets you control the browser's security settings, to determine how to handle different types of files.
