Titles

By clicking on the Titles button underneath the Shelf, an image similar to this will appear.

When a title is selected, it will be played in the small window. It can be seen in the Monitor by clicking the Preview button. The speed at which it plays out can be controled by using the Speed and Pause buttons.

To the left of the list of title display options is a directional dial with arrows. This is used to choose the direction the text will flow across the clip.

Underneath the list of title choices are other selections. The color of the text can be selected by clicking on the square next to Color and holding down the mouse to choose a color. The text can be displayed over black by clicking the square next to Over Black. Otherwise, it will be displayed on top of the footage. If your movie will be saved as a QuickTime file, click the square next to QT Margins. This allows titles to have a larger font size.

Other choices include font and font sizes. The text is entered by clicking in the text area and typing the wanted text. The amount of text allowed depends on which kind of text chosen.

Once you have decided on all the available options, the title has to be rendered. To do this, click and hold the mouse button on the chosen title. Then drag it to the left of the clip and release the mouse button. iMovie begins to render the title and its effects.
