Ahora vamos a ilustrar c�mo trabaja Telnet. Como un ejemplo, sup�nte que eres un maestro planificando una excursi�n con tu sal�n hogar a la Biblioteca Nacional de Medicina en Bethesda, Maryland. Usaremos el Telnet para entrar la base de datos de su biblioteca para determinar las horas de operaci�n, y tambi�n obtener instrucciones para llegar a la biblioteca. Finalmente, tendremos dicha informaci�n remitida por correo electr�nico.

Abre el programa de MS TELNET y haz la siguiente secuencia de operaciones.
Telnet a locator.nlm.nih.gov y sigue las instrucciones en la pantalla. Cuando te pidan el nombre de registro (login), reg�strate con el nombre de "locator" (sin comillas). Este es un ejemplo de Telnet an�nimo, donde cualquiera puede registrarse sin una clave secreta. Despu�s de darle a la tecla de RETURN, te debe aparecer lo siguiente en la pantalla.

Entra tu direcci�n de correo electr�nico en el lugar indicado y oprime la tecla "Return", (si a�n no tienes direcci�n electr�nica, simplemente oprime "Return" sobre el indicador. Una vez aparezca la informaci�n, oprime la "M" en tu teclado para guardar la informaci�n en un buz�n temporero (si entraste una direcci�n electr�nica al principio cuando se te indic�). Ahora, para regresar a la pantalla anterior, oprime la tecla de Escape dos veces, y usa la ayuda de las teclas con flechas para seleccionar "Visitor Information" del men� resultante.
Oprimir "Return" te da la siguiente pantalla informativa:

Oprime "M" nuevamente para a�adir esto a un archivo de buz�n temporero.
Ahora, oprime el "Escape" cuatro veces para regresar al men� principal, usando las flechas que indican hacia arriba y/o hacia abajo para escoger "Exit", y oprime "Return". Esto debe terminar la secci�n de Telnet, y, si entraste una direcci�n electr�nica al principio, te debe de enviar un mensaje electr�nico conteniendo el material que guardaste en tu buz�n temporero. De esta manera, en poco tiempo, debes recibir v�a electr�nica, una lista de las horas de la biblioteca y direcciones de como llegar a ella.
Telnet from the Web Browser
Tambi�n puedes usar tu navegador de la Web para implementar la conexi�n de Telnet para direcciones que permiten accesos an�nimos. Por ejemplo, en el ejemplo anterior, intenta entrar la siguiente direcci�n URL dentro del navegador:
telnet://locator.nlm.nih.gov
Si tu navegador esta configurado para darle a Telnet la aplicaci�n de ayuda, este debe autom�ticamente aparecer una ventana Telnet y despu�s puedes proceder como anteriormente explicado.
