  1. NetSmartz for Parents and Educators [www.netsmartz.org] - This site offers 3-D, animated activities that provide fun and interesting approaches to developing safe-surfing habits on the Internet. Follow the links on this site to learn more about the risks children face online and how to avoid them.
  2. The Internet Content Rating Association [www.icra.org] - an international, independent organization that empowers the public, especially parents, to make informed decisions about electronic media by means of the open and objective labeling of content. A key point is that the Internet Content Rating Association does not rate Internet content - the content providers do that, using the ICRA system. Filtering topics for the labeling are: chat, language used on site, nudity and sexual content of site, violence depicted on site, and other such as gambling, drugs and alcohol.
  3. GetNetWise [www.getnetwise.org] - A resource that offers excellent tools for the whole family to use to help ensure they are protected while on line. It includes a link to the SurfWatch Safety toolkit, which is especially helpful for teachers who are trying to explain Internet Safety to their students.
  4. Web Wise Kids [http://www.webwisekids.org/] - A resource which equips children to make wise choices on the Internet. It includes a workshop for middle school aged children where students learn via the use of a CD Rom computer game called "missing."
  5. Internet Safety Quiz [http://techcorps.org/resources/internetsafety/getnet.htm] - Interactive quizzes for kids, tweens and teens, that will enable you to conduct your own "Internet Safety Awareness" seminar in your school or community for either educators or parents.
  6. K-12 Acceptable Use Policies [http://netizen.uoregon.edu/] - A great resource for materials and information to assist school districts in the development of effective Internet policies and practices.
