For a number of years,
a staple for rapid and broad distribution of information on the Internet
has been the use of Automatic Mail Lists (sometimes
called listservs). We shall refer to these generically as Mail
Lists. Although many of the functions of these lists are being supplanted
by Web sites and by Newsgroups, Mail Lists still play a large role in
distributing information because they require only email, not Web,
capability.

participation in Automatic Mail Lists.
