Traditional Classroom Versus A Distant Education /2013/06/03/traditional-classroom-versus-a-distant-education/ /2013/06/03/traditional-classroom-versus-a-distant-education/#comments Mon, 03 Jun 2013 00:00:00 +0000 admin /?p=21 With the rise of technology being integrated into classrooms over the past few years, many students have found that they can forego attending a physical school altogether, and further their education online. Some are convinced that online education is not a proper way for children to be taught, while others welcome the change with open arms. Overall, it can be said that learning in a traditional classroom and learning over the Internet both have their own pros and cons.Check out this link ‘http://yaledailynews.com/blog/2013/05/17/yale-partners-with-mooc-platform/’>here.

Traditional Classroom

Pros: Being in a physical classroom means that a student is less likely to have things that distract them. The educator is also readily accessible and most likely a few steps away. Some children may also like the social aspect of learning along with their peers, helping their peers, and learning from the questions that other classmates ask.

Cons: A traditional classroom also offers no chance of flexibility or encouragement of free thinking, depending on the instructor. The child is confined to the same room for a lengthy amount of time without any freedom of thought or expression being encouraged. There is also a chance of other classmates being a distraction rather than a source of help, support, or camaraderie.

Online Education

Pros: An education online allows the student to learn at their own pace, at their own time while still setting clear goals and objectives. It also allows for more multimedia incorporation, which is likely to keep the child’s attention for longer and lets them continue to learn in cases when they may have trouble coming to school regularly, such as chronic serious health issues.

Cons: Online education heavily relies on the child’s independence, and online pupils are often in a comfortable environment (home) that has quite a few distractions.

Some of the Advantages of Distance Learning /2012/09/26/some-of-the-advantages-of-distance-learning/ /2012/09/26/some-of-the-advantages-of-distance-learning/#comments Wed, 26 Sep 2012 00:00:00 +0000 admin /?p=17 Virtual education or distance learning has become a fairly common thing and lots of people from all different age groups are enjoying the benefits of this educational movement. There are a number of advantages when it comes to distance learning and below are just a few.

1. Flexibility. Most of the courses you can take through distance learning let you learn at your own pace. Some people need that in order to really make the most of their studies. This also means you can take breaks. Play with the kids, walk the dog, pay the bills, check home insurance rates on home.insurancetown.com, or any other personal errand. All of life’s little things can be interspersed with your learning.

2. You can still work. Some people don’t get to choose between work and education – some people have to try and awkwardly juggle both and that can be a real burden. Plus, your studies can suffer tremendously as a result. With distance learning, as we mentioned before, you often have the flexibility to stop learning, work and then pick up from where you left off.

3. Save on resources. We’re mostly referring to the gas you’ll save by cutting out the commute. It doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, but it all adds up in the end. And, with gas prices being what they are, every penny counts.

The internet has changed the way that we do many things, and one of those is the way that people go to school. People can now finish their education at a school that is in a different state.

The advantages of distance education is that you are able to get a degree from whatever college you would like, it allows you do your schoolwork whenever you have time and allows you to choose from a huge list of degrees without being limited to what schools in your area offer. Didn’t catch that? This explains it.

However, while this is a great opportunity, many people do have some issues with distance learning. To follow a distance learning program you have to be a self starter since there is no one that is following up and making sure you study or view online lectures. Additionally, you will have to communicate with teachers only through the internet and cannot simply schedule a meeting time in a classroom if you have a problem.

Overall distance learning is a great idea that is allowing many people to finish their education, but it is something you have to be determined to do for it to work.

Five Pros And Cons About Distant Education /2012/05/17/five-pros-and-cons-about-distant-education/ /2012/05/17/five-pros-and-cons-about-distant-education/#comments Thu, 17 May 2012 00:00:00 +0000 www.webteacher.org /?p=10 The technology of today’s world has given us many advances such as online banking and bill paying, instant communication with loved ones, and information at our fingertips. One of the most impressive uses of the newest technology is the development of distant education. Here are five pros and cons of distant education:

- It is possible to earn the degree you dreamed of without relocating to a city that has a college offering the program you are interested in.

- Online colleges provide links to libraries and fulltext bibliographic databases for use in researching topics for papers and additional reading. If you are located in a rural area or small town you do not need to be concerned about access to supplemental reading for your classes. .

- Most distant education moves at a faster pace. When you finish one class you are able to immediately enroll in the next class. There is generally no waiting for the next quarter or semester to start so you are able to finish a degree in less time than on a campus.

- Getting a degree from a distant learning program is generally more expensive than attending college on a campus because the credit hours are higher.

- Not all online programs are fully accredited. Make sure you thoroughly investigate before you enroll.
