The Internet is a powerful tool that allows teachers and students to reach beyond their classroom walls to access information and communicate with peers around the world. As Broadband is introduced into schools and communities around the country, high-speed Internet access will make the World Wide Web even more accessible. Today's teachers are searching for tools that can help them to effectively access and use the resources which the Internet offers.
Continuing a long-standing commitment to education, the cable television industry sought an effective Internet training tool to offer to teachers. In partnership with TECH CORPS, a national non-profit which assists schools with their technology efforts, the cable television industry is now making available to schools everywhere a comprehensive Internet training tool called webTeacher. webTeacher is a self-paced Internet tutorial that puts both basic and in-depth information about the World Wide Web at a teacher's fingertips - just a mouse click away! E-mail, video conferencing, chat rooms, Web page design, Internet safety, curriculum material research - teachers choose the tutorial topic they want to explore, they choose their own pace, and they choose the depth of knowledge they desire, and webTeacher leads them through the information. Then, because webTeacher is an interactive guide, teachers have the opportunity to apply their new knowledge immediately through the online exercises and activities.
In addition to materials on how to use the Internet, webTeacher also includes information on Internet safety, broadband cable technology, the Universal Service Fund, other funding sources for schools, education Web sites, lesson plans, and a comprehensive guide to the cable television industry's educational resources.
webTeacher can be a private tutor for any teacher, or it can be used in large group teacher training sessions. And because the cable television industry and TECH CORPS are providing it as an online resource, it is available to schools at no charge, 24 hours a day.
